This summer, over 60 rising seniors had the opportunity to intern at a variety of different businesses. Participants of the program went through a thorough application process, listing their interests, strengths in the workplace, and availability in the summer months. Fields students interned in included engineering, drug prevention, medicine, law, marketing, and architecture, among others.

Senior Elliot Jeray, who shadowed a doctor of Urology at Bon Secours, said an aspect that appealed to him about the program was its flexible schedule. Elliott shadowed the doctor meeting patients and in the operating room, and said he would reccomend the program for juniors as it “helped give insight into life as a medical professional” and strengthened his medical interests.

Seniors Anson Jorgenson and Amelia Spinks are two others who pursued internships this summer. Anson, who interned at Crawford marketing, said the experience enhanced his leadership and collaborative skills. Amelia worked at Jack Porter, a firm that designs locker rooms for college sports teams. She says that her internship taught her about marketing, design, and installation, adding that she was able to tour sports facilities at Clemson and Georgia

Ally Stone, who serves as the service and experiential learning coordinator at Christ Church, said that the Junior Internship program gives students the ability to “build responsibility and independence” while “opening doors and building relationships” in the workplace. She added that members of this program learned important skills for their future careers, such as how to effectively communicate and which methods of communication work best in the professional world. She also noted that an important advantage of the internship program is that it helps us remember the “the power of human connection.”
