Before binge-watching became a normal weekend activity and before every show was just a click away on streaming platforms, there was something magical about waiting for your favorite cartoon to come on TV. Maybe it aired after school while you ate a snack, or perhaps it was part of your Saturday morning ritual. Fast forward to now, even though we’re all grown up, it’s fun to look back on our favorite childhood shows and smile.
Recently, I asked several students and teachers what their favorite show was growing up. For English Teacher Mr Jacobssen, the answer was simple: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was awesome because they were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and they did karate and had cool phrases like cowabunga.” Mr Halvorson, thought back to his early childhood, saying, “When I was a real little kid, I liked Super Friends.”
Students’ answers resulted in a lot of similar answers, but a lot of different ones as well. Senior Amelia Koch said, “I watched a lot of Peppa Pig and Oswald on Nickelodeon.” While her classmate Bowie Baden answered, “ I really loved Lego Ninjago.”
When talking to some of the juniors, Celina Brotherton answered, “I think my favorite shows were Odd Squad and Word Girl on PBS Kids.” Cameron Wilkie answered, “I think my happiest childhood memory was watching Woody Woodpecker.”
