Everybody remembers that nostalgic childhood feeling of cuddling close with your loved ones and watching movies with a mug of hot cocoa on Christmas Eve. With exams quickly approaching, it’s nice to take a break from that daily stress and recreate that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. We have been hard at work coming up with a list of our top ten movies that give us that nostalgic feeling once again.
Coming in at number ten, we have the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. Now, we know what you’re thinking, “but this isn’t a Christmas movie,” and to that we say, you are correct. It starts as Halloween, ends as Halloween, ergo it is a Halloween movie. But we think that it has enough Christmassy aspects, and is such an incredible movie that we can’t not put it on this list.
For number nine, A Christmas Carol. Jim Carrey’s performance stands out as he voices several characters, giving the film a unique energy. While it might feel a bit dark for some viewers, it still captures the heart of Dickens’ message and makes for a memorable holiday watch.
At number eight we have the movie Christmas Vacation. Christmas Vacation is a funny and chaotic holiday movie that shows just how wild family gatherings can get. Chevy Chase’s character tries so hard to make the “perfect Christmas,” but everything hilariously falls apart. Overall, it’s a light-hearted classic that many families still enjoy watching every year.
Number seven brings us to the movie Frosty the Snowman. This joyful cartoon features a magical, fun loving snowman with a top hat who likes to play with the children. This movie has a way of taking you back to your childhood and is always an excellent choice to watch the night before christmas.
Number six: Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. This movie is pretty much on the same level as Frosty the Snowman for the same reasons. This decision could have gone either way but what puts this movie slightly above is that classic, claymation style that we simply can’t find anymore.
At number five, we have Elf. Buddy, a human raised by elves, travels to New York City to reconnect with his roots and spread Christmas cheer. It’s a hilarious, feel-good movie full of heart. The lightheartedness of this movie is a holiday pick-me-up and for sure necessary during this stressful time.
For number four, we have A Charlie Brown Christmas. Charlie Brown searches for the real spirit of Christmas amid the season’s commercialism. Its simple message and classic music make it timeless. We all have put on the Charlie Brown Christmas album to study for our exams- it’s iconic, and the movie is too!
Number three, we have The Polar Express. A magical train ride takes a disbelieving young boy on an unforgettable journey to the North Pole, where he discovers his belief in Christmas once more. As we get older, it’s good to have a reminder to believe in the holiday spirit and remember to have some holiday cheer, and this movie is a perfect reminder.
At number two, we have How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This movie follows the Grinch, a grumpy creature who tries to steal Christmas joy from the Whos of Whoville. In the end, he discovers the meaning of the holiday and his hidden love for Christmas. This movie is a quintessential reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and is a great watch for all ages.
Finally, at number one, we have Home Alone. This classic film features a young boy, Kevin, who accidentally gets left behind while his family goes on vacation, forcing him to try and outsmart a couple of burglars. It’s a funny, heartwarming movie packed with holiday charm. This movie is a total holiday classic and is sure to be on everyone’s ‘must watch’ list. We know it’s on ours!
