This is why we clash.
A new best old mobile game has finally made a well-deserved comeback. I was playing Clash Royale one day as I was trying to reach my bucket list climb to 10,000 trophies. To my surprise, I found that Jinxy was streaming Clash. Ever since I saw him, I couldn’t stop seeing Clash on my TikTok feed. I found that I was constantly seeing Mr. Clash Royal, the ginger guy, Jinxy, and other Clash Royale TikToks.
Clash Royale is the best mobile game ever made, and over the past couple of months, people have been flocking back to a fan-favorite game. But why do people really love Clash Royale?
In a YouTube video, Jinxy, a streamer and a Clash royal player, says, “Clash isn’t just a game, but a lifelong journey.” This completely explains what’s going on with the game. Players are given a goal that many people want to achieve from the start of playing the game: 10,000 trophies. Having a goal to reach only makes the player want to play even more.
Once you start to play the game the only thing that could stop you from playing the game is that its just to easy. During lower ranks of the game the player would often play against bots. This makes it seem like the game is to easy.
Once you get to a higher level, around 5k-6k trophies, you come to quickly realize the true difficulty of the game. This is when the game truly gets to be fun. The things that make a game the most fun aren’t how cool the game looks or how your friends start to play it, no the most important thing about a game is its difficulty and how fun it is to win.
When playing the game, many people will come in with a deck that seems impossible to win against. An absolute hard counter to the deck that you perfectly crafted. Only to meet the midlander menace, Mega Knight. But somehow, someway, you end up winning in triple elixir. To people like me, this is the most satisfying thing in the world
And only after feeling loss over and over again can one truly appreciate winning. Picture this, you’re at 5,987 trophies, one game away from winning, and yet you keep losing out of nowhere.
5,954 losing around 30 trophies every time, dropping all the way to the checkpoint at 5,500 trophies. And just like that, all your progress is gone.
By the time you reach 5,980 trophies, you start to feel a sense that this is the last game before I’ll hit the checkpoint. And you start to lock in, you start to play your best game you’ve ever played, and you win. This accomplishment that rushes over you gives you satisfaction. And the cycle continues.
Push to higher arenas, unlock new cards, get absolutely destroyed, then start to win. Until you reach the goal that everyone tries to achieve. The reason the game is so perfect is that people just want to win, and not just win easily, but win against a difficult opponent.
Another factor of the game that makes it impossible to stop playing is TikTok. Once you see one Clash Royale TikTok, it is almost impossible to stop seeing them. You see the player having fun playing the game, you’ll see the streamer doing challenges.
A junior, Colt Anderson, said, “My favorite thing is Mega Knight, but seriously, the different game modes are amazing. This not only shows how amazing the different cards are but also the versatility of the game. Every week or so, the game adds challenges and events to keep people hooked on the game.
An 8th grader said that Evos made the game better. This is understandable because evos spice up the game, and every month, a new evo is added that completely shakes up the meta.
Senior Hampton Shield said that the game is fun, but it’s pay-to-win. This is the biggest problem that Clash Royale has. Your cards can be leveled up from 1 to 15. Getting your card to max without paying can take years.
The other pay-to-win thing is evos themselves. Every month, SuperCell adds a broken card to the game that arguably will be the best card in the game ( later, they will nerf it just to keep the game from being too unbalanced), and in order to get the evo, you either need to pay money or wait for months to get enough evo shards.
Another junior, Chris Killan, said, “I like the different deck you can build”. This also points out another factor of the game. Not only is the game skill-based, but strategy-based based well. You get to choose from countless cards to pick what you think is the best combination of cards.
Clash is one of those games that will never stop being fun, like Fortnite or 2k Games. In my words, Clash is the best mobile game to exist. I 100% recommend this game.
