Hey, Blue Jays fans. I’m sorry. I’m sorry that your general manager (Ross Atkins) decided to not pay Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a reasonable amount of money to make him a Blue Jay for life. Ross, Monday night was the most important day in your offseason, and you ruined it.
Ross, are you happy with your decision? Does it bring you joy to know that you will most likely lose your homegrown superstar player? Are you sure that it wasn’t worth it to give your franchise a piece to build around? Is Bo Bichette your answer? Have you thought about your fans? Your fans want you fired. And, to be fair, I want you fired too.
Next year, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette will be free agents. The year after that, George Springer and Kevin Gausman were free agents. Why did you sign Anthony Santander? Did you want him to be miserable in two years? Ross, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Allegedly, Vlad wanted $450 million dollars for 10 years. For reference, Mike Trout signed a 12 year deal worth $426.5 million dollars. Shohei Ohtani signed for $700 million dollars over 10 years. Juan Soto signed for $765 million dollars over 15 years. This contract would make Vlad have the third highest year over year salary in the MLB. HOW IS HE NOT WORTH IT.
Vlad had a .323 average last year and 30 home runs last year. He also had a .396 on base percentage. In comparison, Juan Soto had an average of .288 with 41 home runs and a .419 on base percentage last year (The year before he signed). Why are you the GM? Do you know what you’re doing? FIRED.
And the worst part is that the Mets and Steve Cohen will come waltzing in next offseason and are going to offer Vlad $50 million dollars more than he asked for. And, yet again, the Blue Jays will lose out on another start player. Over the past two offseasons, the Blue Jays have tried to sign Ohtani and Soto, and failed both times. But here’s the thing. They were willing to pay them $700 million dollars. So, you’re telling me that it isn’t worth signing a 25 year old superstar for $350 million dollars less than what you were offering Soto? Just to add to this misery, Vlad was also willing to come down in money to stay with the Blue Jays. WHY DID YOU NOT SIGN HIM? The worst part about this entire situation is that when Vlad was asked if the Blue Jays came close to the offer he was looking for, he said the only thing that wasn’t from the translator. “No.”
I cannot understand this. Ross, please resign. Blue Jays fans, my condolences. To the poor, poor baseball fans that will now have to see Vlad go to the Mets or Yankees, I’m so sorry.
What happened to the Blue Jays? They were so promising a few years ago and now all the talent they got over these past years are going away.
Hey, Blue Jays fans. I’m sorry. At least it’s Spring Training and you can find a new team to cheer for. Then, when (or if) the Blue Jays get back to contention in 10 years, you can say you stuck with them through the tough times. But let’s be honest. You’re mad, and you’re crashing out right now. Just like me.
