Cavalier Basketball Begins 2018-19 Season

The Christ Church Varsity boys basketball team has experienced a massive turn around in the past year under Coach John Butler. In 2016, the Cavaliers only won two games in route to a 2-18 record. Last year the team improved to a 13-9 record, and this year the team has high hopes for this season. Led by junior point guard Rayshon Harrison and sophomore center John Butler, the Cavs are off to a 2-2 start. They took down Carolina on opening night before losing to Blue Ridge by one point later in the week. The Cavaliers then fell to one of the top teams in North Carolina, Zebulon B. Vance, last weekend. Junior point guard, Rayshon Harrison, said that playing such a strong team helped them improve. This showed off earlier this week when the Cavs avenged the earlier loss to Blue Ridge with a fifteen point victory over Blue Ridge. The Cavaliers host St. Joe’s this Friday, as they will try to avenge two close losses to the Knights from last year. Junior Charles Sagedy said that getting revenge on St. Joe’s was one of the team’s main goals this year along with winning region. Rayshon Harrison also said that he was very excited to get another shot at their rival. Christ Church lost both matchups to St. Joe’s last year. The first was a difficult two point loss in triple overtime at St. Joe’s followed by a six point loss at home. The Cavaliers get their first opportunity at revenge this Friday. Christ Church hosts St. Joe’s at 7:30 at McCall Fieldhouse, and it is a jersey out.
