Boys and Girls Track and Field Off to Tremendous Starts

Track and Field has historically been one of the most successful yet underappreciated sports at CCES. Not only have numerous Christ Church athletes continued to compete in Track and Field events collegiately, the boys and girls teams have had tremendous success in recent years, with the girls winning championships in both the 2012 and 2016 seasons while the boys won in 2014. The Lady Cavs are anchored by senior Jordan Haywood, who commited to run at Elon in the fall. Haywood dominated at the Hillcrest meet last week, setting a school record of 11.90 in the 100 meter dash and finishing first by a margin of .3 seconds. Her victory, along with Tariney Pepper’s 7th place finish in the 800m, were standouts for the Cavs against some of the best teams in the Upstate.

The Hillcrest meet was followed by a home meet the following week, at which both the boys and the girls dominated. The Lady Cavs finished in first place amongst the four teams that competed, while the boys finished in second. The meet was the last pre-region meet of the year and hopefully prepared both the girls and boys for the remainder of the season ahead.
