Basketball Teams Reach Mid-Season

On Tuesday, January 24th, the Christ Church girls and boys basketball teams hosted region opponent Chesnee. The Lady Cavs got off to a impressive start showing intense defensive pressure and dominance under the basket, leading Chesnee 37-13 at the half. The Cavs continued to build on their first half performance after the announcement of the Homegoing King, Barnes Elliott. The Cavalier defense continued to put pressure on Chesnee’s offense, only giving up two points altogether in the third while putting up 27 of their own, pushing the final score to a whopping 78-22. The girls improved their record to 17-2 overall and a commanding 5-0 record in region play.

Following the girls game, the Christ Church boys looked to come out on top with another win against Chesnee but fell in a competitive affair. The Cavaliers played well in the first quarter, leading 16-11 going into the second quarter. However, things started to get frustrating for the Cavs as the game progressed. Chesnee began to build momentum as fouls piled up for the Cavaliers. With the help of clutch free throw shooting, Chesnee took a small lead going into halftime. The second half didn’t seem to get any better for the Cavs, and Chesnee was able to maintain their lead by continuing to earn trips to the free throw line. Chesnee finished 19 for 27 from the line and ended up winning by fifteen. Despite the loss, the Cavs fought hard and will continue to build on their tough season (1-14 Overall, 1-4 Region).

Both the boys and girls will continue their season tonight at St. Joseph’s to conclude Spirit Week.
