Sydney and Maddie Baker commit to swim at UNC while Sadie Burton commits to play soccer at Emory and Henry

Every athlete has a dream of representing their school on a bigger stage – of putting their team on their back and representing something much greater than in high school. On Wednesday, November 9th, Christ Church had three students commit to continue their athletic careers at the college level.

Sydney and Maddie Baker both signed to swim at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Both Sydney and Maddie have set and broken numerous records for the Christ Church swimming team. In her time at CCES, Maddie has set the record for the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard butterfly. Sydney holds the school record for the 200 yard freestyle, the 500 yard freestyle, and the 100 yard breaststroke as well. Both girls were also members of the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard free relay that secured the fastest times in school history.

Sadie Burton, a member of the Christ Church soccer team for her entire high school career, committed to Emory and Henry to play soccer as well. Sadie has played an important part in the Cavaliers’ success over the past few seasons and looks to help propel the Emory and Henry soccer program into one of the top Division III programs.

Fortunately, the senior class at Christ Church will be well represented in college athletics this year, and Maddie, Sydney, and Sadie hope to play large roles in their team’s success over the next four years.
