On Friday, August 19, 2016, the varsity girls tennis team began their new season strong with the help of Coach Adams and Coach A.B. Stewart. Their competition included St. Joseph’s, Greenville High School, and Travelers Rest High School at Furman University.

The two day tournament saw both rain and stifling heat. The Lady Cavs have dominated this tournament for six straight years, but the Furman win was even more incredible. They raised the bar by not losing a single match in both singles and doubles. Day Nuckolls(10), Lauren Allen(11), Abby Riddle(9), Mary Philpot(8), and Sarah Allen(8) filled the top five spots in singles. The matches lasted until 7:00 on Saturday night with a final CCES victory by Lauren Allen. Team Captain, Jenna Taylor(12) dominated number one doubles with Paula Pieper(11). Martha Quattlebaum(11) and Mary Cage Carter(11) were also champions in the number two doubles spot. The Lady Cavs have a long and challenging season ahead but showed enormous potential and strength for even the toughest matches they will face. In her first five seasons with Christ Church, Coach Adams led the Lady Cavs to five straight state championship victories. Last year, however, Christ Church fell to Bishop England in the AAA division finals. The Cavaliers are determined to be victorious in the State Final this season in the AA division.
