Spring Sports Preview 2016

CCES boys lacrosse defeated JL Mann 16-11 in their first scrimmage (John Sanders).

A wave of sports, including soccer, baseball, and lacrosse, will all begin their respective seasons this month.

The boys soccer team began their season last week with tryouts taking place from Monday through Wednesday. After losing the Upper-State Championship last season to the eventual champions, St. Joes, the Cavaliers hope to rebound with a state championship of their own. The varsity soccer team has a scrimmage against Eastside, who they beat last season 2-1, on February 11th.

Also starting their season last week, the baseball team will have their first scrimmage Friday, February 12th against Blacksburg. Despite not being included in the preseason 1A rankings, the baseball team hopes to turn heads and compete with number one ranked Southside Christian and number three ranked St. Joes.

Boys lacrosse began their season the first week of February with a scrimmage on February 2nd against J.L Mann. Led by head coach Shane LeCroy, the lacrosse team came away with a win 16-11. Junior Tom Fincher had 4 goals and first year goalie, Cole Berube, had 12 saves. After losing in the first round of the playoffs last season to number one seed Fort Mill, the Cavaliers will have to compensate for the loss of seven seniors and will have to rely upon their returning stars to propel the team deep into the playoffs.

Each team has the potential to have a good season if they stay healthy and work together.
