Christ Church Track and Field
The Christ Church girls’ and boys’ track and field team competed in the region 2A championships on April 29 and 30. The top four competitors of each event qualified for the state meet on May 17 in Columbia. The girls’ team placed fourth and had six different people qualify for the state meet. The boys’ placed first and had ten different people qualify for the state meet.
On the girls’ team, seventh grader Tariney Pepper qualified for the state meet in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. Freshmen Julia Dipeiro, long jump and triple jump, and Bralie Runge, 400 meter hurdles, will compete in the state meet. Tenth grader Abbie Posta placed fourth at the region 2A championships in discus and will compete at the state meet. The final two girls competing at the state meet for Christ Church are juniors France Wavro, 1,600 meter run and 3,200 meter run, and Schaefer Runge, 100 meter hurdles.
On the boys’ team, ninth grader Daniel Dixon qualified for the state meet in both the high jump and the long jump. In the 3,200 meter run, sophomore Walker Cullen and senior James Quattlebaum finished in the top four at region and will compete at the state meet. Quattlebaum, who will be running track and cross country at High Point University next year, also qualified in the 1,600 meter run and the 800 meter run. Shaun Schroder, a Christ Church junior, will compete in the 110 meter hurdles at the state meet. In the 100 meter dash, Dorien Dickey, Demetrius Anthony and Quan White all qualified for the state meet. At the state meet, Dickey will be competing in the 200 and 400 meter dash, Anthony will be competing in the 200 meter dash, and White will be competing in the long jump. Seniors Tom Kent, Max Isley and Will Carter will all be competing in the state meet. Kent and Isley qualified in the pole vault, and Carter qualified in discus, high jump and shot put.
The members of the track and field team that are competing at the state meet now focus on training to win an individual championship in each of their events and a team championship for Christ Church.
