The CCES Varsity Baseball season has started and the boys are off to a good start. They have dealt with many injuries early on this season. Star player Jack Schofield has had to deal with a lingering elbow injury. The team will be excited when he is back to 100%.
The season started with an away game against top rated 1A baseball team St. Josephs. The Cavaliers put up a valiant effort but unfortunately fell short with a 10-0 loss. The Cavaliers then had their first home game of the year and lost 13-5 to the very talented Laurens Academy. The Cavaliers then played Greenville Tech Charter and in an exciting game that was won by a walk off hit from Jeffery Johnson, the Cavaliers won 11-10. This was the Cavaliers first win of the year. The Cavaliers finished their home stand against Ninety-Six with a very tight game in which the Cavaliers fell short in a 3-1 loss. The Cavaliers then hit the road and beat region competitor Greer Middle College Charter 19-7. This win was highlighted by three home runs from Jack Schofield, Cole Bradley, and Blake Brady. They then played Laurens Academy once again, this time on the road, and lost in a close game 3-1.The boys took care of Brashier Middle College Charter 12-2. The win was highlighted by junior third baseman Zach Cooter’s two double game, along with three RBI’s. Senior Marshall Merline says about the outlook of the season “We are a very young team, but we have been steadily improving each game”.
