Each year on the first Monday in May, celebrities gather for one of the most exclusive events: the Met Gala. The theme of the gala changes annually, and each year we see different outfits on celebrities trying to fit the theme. This past Monday was the 2024 Met Gala with the theme “Garden of Time.” After looking over a majority of the pictures taken on the red carpet, I’ve made a list of some of my favorite and least favorite looks of the Met Gala.
Starting strong with Lana Del Ray wearing a gown by Alexander Mcqueen. This is a hand embroidered dress made with silk, tulle, and double georgette fabric. This look was one of the first ones that I saw and remained one of my favorites throughout the night. Not only is it fabulous, it also fits the theme of the gala, and shows effort and creativity on the part of the designer.
Typically when reviewing Met Gala looks, I skip over most of the men as they just dress in black suits, completely ignoring the theme. So when I was looking at the different outfits, Lil Naz X caught my eye. In this photo he is wearing an outfit from Luar, and while this may not be my favorite look of the evening, it was a nice surprise to see some effort from the male celebrity designers.
After four years of not attending the Met Gala, Zendaya is finally back and showed off not one but two dresses on the red carpet. The first dress is Vintage Givenchy. The second one is from the company Maison Margiela. This dress was another one of my favorites throughout the event.
Next, a dress that is by no means my favorite but certainly caught my eye, is Michelle Yeoh wearing Balenciaga. I think that the silver color suits her very well; however, the texture of the dress makes it look like she’s just wearing a large piece of wrinkled tin foil which just doesn’t do it for me.
This is Odell Beckham Jr wearing Bode. Out of all of the male celebrities, I think this may be my favorite outfit. I appreciate the simplicity of the suit while still fitting the theme and showing a bit of creativity.
And finally, this stunning number by Miu Miu worn by Sydney Sweeney. This dress was my overall favorite. It looks like Sweeney walked straight out of a storybook and onto the runway.
