Affordable Christmas Gifts to Save the Holiday
With this Christmas around the corner it is easy to get frantic about not having gifts to give. Maybe you are broke at the time, you do not know what to buy, you missed Black Friday, yet you want to make it personal, but sadly, do not know how to. If you are any of these descriptions then not to fear, DIY ideas are here! DIY is there perfect solution for Christmas gifts for various family members because none of the ideas are expensive, there are many different ideas to fit a certain family member, they are all personal because you are a part of the creating process, it does not take much time, and they always end up beautiful leaving the person who opens the present with a huge smile. Some people tend to stay away from DIY ideas because they fear it will take to much time when they could just simply buy the same thing at the mall. These people would be wrong because by the time you earn the money for the gift, get to the place to buy it, and shop around, you could of already gotten the crafts and created it. Also this way you save money this Christmas year for the bigger gifts to buy. Most of the gifts stores sell can actually be made pretty easily for less than half of the overpriced cost. People fail to realize this because they look at a cute gift and assume they could never create it, therefore the cost of it is fitting. In reality, anyone can make these gifts if they have the proper tools and follow the simple directions.
This Christmas, I want to share some DIY ideas for all of the stressed people out there, cramming to find that gift everyone wants.
The first idea is a Christmas inspired fleece blanket. In order to make this comfy, soft blanket, you must get these supplies…
- Black Sharpie
- Scissors
- Fleece fabric big enough to be a blanket of your pattern (can get this at Michaels or any other craft store nearby)
- Long ribbon of your choice that matches the fleece fabric you chose
To make this cozy blanket…
- Take the fleece and do an outline with black sharpie that you will use to cut it into whatever shape and size you want the blanket to be. My suggestion is to not cut off to much and just curve the edges to make it look more like a blanket.
- Next is take the ribbon and put it on each side of the cut out blanket at the end. In order to make this ribbon stay, put super glue on the back of the ribbon before you place it on the fabric.
- Now let the blanket dry overnight with the glue on it and when you wake up in the morning you will have a soft, new blanket that only required three materials. Just make sure to not get to cozy with the blanket because you must wrap it up for others and put it under your tree.
The next idea is one that a person can keep forever and keep it is their shining light throughout dark times. For this DIY, I will be showing you how to make a picture frame luminary…
The supplies to get…
- 4 5×7 frames with the color of your choice
- Print four family photos that are 5×7 from Walgreens or your at home printer
- A small piece of wood that you can get from Michaels or any other nearby craft store.
- Glue
- Scissors
The steps to make this sentimental picture frame luminary…
- Print out 4 photos from Walgreens that are 5×7
- Get 4 5×7 frames and put the photos into the frames. Use the scissors to cut the pictures if they do not fit perfectly.
- Once you have done this with the four photo frames, next flue each side of the frames next to each other so that it form a square.
- Once you have left this dry turn it upside down and using a knife cut out a piece of wood that matches the small square that will go on the bottom of the picture square piece.
- Once you have cut the piece of wood, using super glue, glue it to the bottom of the four frames.
- Once this has dried, super glue a light (small fake candle you can find at Michaels or any other nearby craft store) inside the square that now has a bottom.
- Now you are finally done! You have a personalized piece that may even make that certain person shed a tear of two. This gift can be put at any place of the house and adds a touch of family to any house to help turn into a home.
The last DIY idea that I fell in love with was one that is perfect for any mom or dad that works hard in the kitchen. One of the most essential ingredients for any family chef is to have salt and pepper lying around.
Supplies to get…
- A salt and upper shaker that has a removable top and clear container. You probably already have this in your house that you can open the top and pour out the salt and pepper and then use or you can go to most stores, such as Target, Walgreens, Bed Bath and Beyond etc.
- Buy salt and paper that you can get at Publix or any nearby grocery store.
- Get small plastic Christmas themed trinkets from a nearby craft store, such as Walgreens or Michaels. Examples of these trinkets would be small reindeers and trees.
- Get super glue
- And a napkin to clean up the mess!
Steps to create this masterpiece for the kitchen…
- Take the empty salt and pepper container and using tweezers or are a few small fingers, place the small Christmas themed trinket in the empty clear salt and pepper shaker after you have put super glue on the bottom of each trinket.
- After you have placed the trinkets where you want them to be, put salt and pepper on top and around them until it is filled to your desire.
- Lastly, put the top back on the salt and pepper shaker and take that handy napkin to wipe up all the salt and paper that may have spilled across the counter. You do not want to put your brand new, adorable salt and pepper shakers on a dirty counter!
In my opinion, these are just a few of my favorite DIY ideas that were the easiest, cutest, that are perfect for any family member. If these ideas do not please you, but you support the idea of a DIY Christmas present, then here is the link.
