Sarah Allen Commits to Elon

April 29, 2021

The Lady Cavs tennis team won another state championship this year, led by senior Sarah Allen, who officially announced her commitment to Elon University this week.

When I asked Sarah what drew her to Elon, she said, “What drew me to Elon is Elon’s perfect location – not too far from home, but a good drive, beautiful campus, medium size school but with small class size and a friendly atmosphere. The tennis coach and team members at Elon are very sweet and have a good perspective on tennis.”

Although tennis is an individual sport, Sarah has always had a good connection with her coaches and teammates. I asked her how her coaches supported her and she said, “My coaches have given me ideas of drills and workouts to help me improve, as well as always supporting me at tournaments and teaching me to have a good perspective on tennis.”

I threw a curveball in the interview when I asked her if she could play another sport in college what would it be. Sarah said, “If I could go D1 in another sport I would probably play basketball because although I am not tall, it would be fun to be on court with my team and play together, whereas tennis is more an individual sport on court.”

With the winning nature of the girls’ tennis team, Sarah has seen a lot of success on the court. When I asked her about their dominance she said, “I think that because the girls’ tennis team has an expectation to win our matches, this has pushed me to concentrate and be fully prepared to play. Our goal that we set is to win state and I have to be prepared to play my best in order to get there and my teammates push each other to play our best as well.”
