Max Morgan interview: Cavs kicker moves on to the next level
April 7, 2021
Max Morgan is a 13 year senior at Christ Church. He has been the waterboy for the football team since he was in Lower school and has played football since 7th grade. This year, Max was named Special Teams player of the year in South Carolina. I talked to Max about his recruitment process and his future in football.
With multiple offers on the table, Max had to make a big decision. When I asked him what it was like to go through the recruiting process in our program Max said “We have had a culture of past kickers being very good. Cliff Gandis is kicking at Georgia Tech, Chandler Catanzaro went to Clemson and then to the NFL. So lucky for me, I was able to see the kind of hard work and dedication it takes to make it to the next level.” Max followed in the footsteps of our past kickers and will be continuing his football career at the D1 level, attending Liberty University in the fall.
When I asked Max about advice for kids looking to get noticed by programs, he said, “I know it’s cliche, but love what you do and always work hard. You have to stay motivated to keep pushing and getting better to get to the next level.” Max attended many football camps at nearby colleges like Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina. “When recruiting, college coaches would much rather see you play in-person then on film.” Max said in the pandemic recruiting was much harder because no one was able to go to camps and in person games, meaning they could only watch film.
Playing D1 football has always been a dream of Max’s, and thanks to his hard work and dedication it will come true this fall. We are all looking forward to seeing Max kick this year and many more to come.
