Meet the New Faculty Members

September 27, 2022

It’s the beginning of a new school year, and with a new school year, comes new faces. Here is a short introduction of some faculty joining the CCES community this year.

Math teacher Mrs. Kristen Foy is familiar to some older staff as she worked here from 2012-2017. She was in the same classroom as she is now, but her subject has changed from Geometry to Algebra I, Algebra II, and Trigonometry.

A native of the upstate, Mrs. Foy worked at Spartanburg Day School prior to returning to CCES. Her whole family is here, so she was excited to come back. She feels the school has a “good community feel” and can’t wait to be a part of it.

Mrs. Foy has always loved math and “always wanted to be a teacher”.

If Vecna ever captured her, she is pretty confident that “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees would save her.

Math teacher Ms. Sarah Martin is very excited to join CCES this year as a Geometry and Algebra I teacher. Before coming here, she was a 7th grade math and science teacher at League Academy.

Christ Church interested her because her fiancé’s siblings went here, and she knows the reputation of the students and the “close-knit community”.

Ms. Martin wasn’t a big fan of math in school. She wants to help those students who have trouble with math. Her goal is “making math relatable”.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, pilates, and walking her Labrador Retriever, Bud. If ever captured by Vecna, “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire would definitely save her.

Learning Specialist Hagen Carmichael is happy to join the CCES faculty this year. Prior to coming to Christ Church, Ms. Carmichael taught English at Camperdown Academy. The position of Learning Specialist excites her because it has “all the best parts” of her previous job but with more variety.

Ms. Carmichael went to CCES from Primer through 12th grade, so it is special that she is able to be an academic coach now. She loves mentoring and getting to know the students. When asked about her new job, she said it was a “fun and awesome change”.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her friends, and painting. If Vecna ever captured her, “Sunbleached Girl” by Shag Rock would be her saving  grace.
