Christ Church students had the opportunity to witness a one seed in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, practice in McCall Fieldhouse today from 11:30-1:00.

Unfortunately, students were not actually allowed inside the gym for practice (except for one lucky student). Students were allowed, however, to cheer on the Tar Heels as they made their way to and from their charter bus. After leaving CCES, UNC headed to The Well to continue practicing before their game against Texas Southern tomorrow.

Lower schoolers lined the walkway leading up to the gym, encouraging on the team with chants of, “U-N-C!” Many high schoolers escaped class to watch and tried to get photos with head coach Roy Williams and some of the team’s notable players.

“Well, it was exhilarating, watching those players walk off the bus and seeing those little kids’ faces… They were really happy, and hopefully, [UNC] will go on to win the championship,” said CCES junior Jackson Houser.

The Upper School is home to two University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alumni, Mr. Clarke and Mr. Woodward, who were particularly proud to see their alma mater at school today.
