The baseball team celebrates after a victory in their last game of the season.

The Christ Church Varsity Baseball team will play at Whitmire in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, April 27th. The team finished the regular season with a winning record of 9-7 and secured third place in the region.

Throughout the season, the baseball players have faced the challenge of adapting to a new coach, JB Barwick. Coach Barwick has previous experience as the head baseball coach at St. Joseph’s High School, Christ Church’s biggest rival. Players describe Barwick as easy to play for since he is always smiling.

According to junior Davis Thurmond, the team “had a weak start, but [they] definitely improved as the season progressed.” Sophomore Ryan Putnam believes the team’s success is due to the fact that “everyone is being less selfish, and [they] are playing as a team.” The team also has two college signees — Jack Schofield, who will play for Wake Forest University next season, and Cole Bradley, who will play for Wofford College.

Putnam is confident that the the baseball team will “make an epic run” in the playoffs “because [they] are playing really good baseball right now.”
