The girls varsity volleyball team won 3-1 in a play-in game on Monday against Greenville Tech and clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The girls had a competitive season full of hard work. The girls are coached by head coach Shane Lecroy and assistant coach Haley Brunson and have the leadership of junior captains Sarah Atkinson and Courtney Lee. The team has finished the regular season with a record of 10-11.

Throughout the season, the team has dealt with various setbacks. Over the summer, starting outside hitter Sky Benjamin broke her ankle and sprained a ligament in her foot. She was diagnosed to miss the majority of the season but persevered and only missed the first few games. Then, just as the team was getting into a rhythm, starting libero Courtney Lee was hurt during a capture the cones game. Lee suffered a concussion and received 20 stitches, causing her to miss several games. She was able to return to the court this last Monday, just in time for the end of the regular season.

Although the team suffered a few setbacks, the girls have worked hard the whole season. Atkinson described the team dynamics and stated, “This is by far the most athletic team I’ve played on during my years at Christ Church. When we play for each other and for the love of the game and truly give one hundred percent, we are unstoppable.”

Atkinson not only represents the team with her leadership, but also with her skill. Last week, Atkinson beat the single season ace record at Christ Church. Previously held at 96, she now has 110 aces so far this season.

The team earned fourth place for playoffs which will begin on Wednesday, October 21st.
