The Cavalier baseball team began their season with practices starting up in February. The team has continued improving under the leadership of returning head coach Michael Fox and the three senior captains Taylor Breazeale, Isaiah Hogue, and Zach Cooter.

Over Spring Break, the team traveled to ESPN Disney World Wide Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida to compete in a tournament against teams from all over the South. They finished in third place. It was a fun bonding experience for the team while they played and explored the various Disney World parks.

The regular season began in early March with a tough loss to St. Joseph’s 0-6 at home. The boys made a quick turn around and defeated Shannon Forest 5-2 the following night at home. After losing to Greenville Tech Charter 10-13 and Laurens Academy 4-8, the boys played St. Joseph’s at Flour Field. The team lost 12-0, but they had a record high number of fans for support.

Following these tough loses, the boys made some adjustments and defeated Southside Christian 6-1 at home. Isaiah Hogue says, “We played loose. We weren’t uptight or afraid to make mistakes.” With their newfound relaxation, the boys were able to score more runs than normal.

Despite their rough start, the baseball team remains optimistic about their future. Hogue says, “We hope to make it to playoffs, and then somehow win state.” Good luck to our Cavalier baseball players in their future games!
